IMAGES BREAKDOWN KAZ ORii Japanese abstract artist Kaz Orii. 33 years old. Graduated from Wako University after which he studied in France. Orii has successfully executed several exhibitions in Japan and in Europe including a solo exhibition at
the Japanese Embassy in Belgium in 2006. The following year he was chosen to
be in the second Japanese Contemporary group exhibition Bridge 2007 held at Akko
Art Gallery (also featuring major artist Mr. Shojiro Kato). The high standard
used in choosing the artists by curator Mr. Yukio Ogushi led to admiration among both art critics and the media. Attention was especially placed on the works of Kaz Orii. Akko
Art Gallery is therefore proud to present Kaz Orii for his first solo exhibition in Asia outside of Japan. Images Breakdown will feature Orii’s latest and larger
works with even more vibrant colours. Orii’s art is a good example of how inherently western oil paintings can change and progress
in a unique way to suit the climate of Japan. A major influence in Orii’s
works is his interaction with nature and seasons in Japan through ongoing farm experiences.
This interaction of agriculture and abstract art may seem at odds at first but it allows him to experience the change
of the seasons in a more profound way. All of this accumulated impressions and
Orii’s creativity merges on the canvas with a distinct warmth. Even within
the thick layering typical of oil paintings, the Japanese sensibility is reflected. Orii’s abstract artworks are easily appreciated even by those whom have not had interest
before due to the aura completed by these colours and structure. According to the artist The sensibilities that I possess as a Japanese is uniquely presented in my abstract style. As I proceed forward in my paining, the shapes and colours change and a subtle balance
is realized resulting in an original painting space. This process is what I as the artist enjoy doing. Up until now, I have mostly exhibited in Japan and in Europe but now I would like to be more active
in Asia. And Thailand being a country filled with energy is a great starting
point. Even though Japanese and Thais are both Asians, the sensibility in art
differs surprisingly greatly. As one of the few Japanese artists active on the
Thai art scene, I would like to carry that as a badge of honour in dynamically representing the Japanese art scene.
