Chirasak Pattanapong
1956 - November 2001 (He
was killed in a car accident in Phuket, Thailand)
Artist Chirasak, up
to his death last November, had been admired as one of the most well known Thai social and surrealist artist in the past 20 years. As his work developed he became a mentor for many up and coming artists.
They grew and learned from him.
Thoughtful, meticulous,
rebellious, unconfined and above all serene and happy, Chirasaks memory lives on in
the spirit of his art.
This is his memorial
art exhibition and we are showing 30 pieces (mostly oils, but also some pen drawings) from the last 20 years of
his work. The exhibition reflects his concern with social and political agendas,
in his canvases from the 1980's, which he had all of his life. Also on show are many of his latest works, some created just
before he died, which are more of a gentle and loving nature, showing nudes and peaceful images in vibrant living color.
The opening day for
the exhibition is the 20th of April 2002, which is the artist's birthday.
